MARKET SQUARE OFFICE
The Riggs National Bank
The Market Square Office was located on the ground floor of the East building of the Market Square Development. It was an ideal location, between 7th street and 9th street facing Pennsylvania Avenue.
The Office was in the midst of many important buildings. The National Archives was directly to the south, the Old Post Office and parts of the Federal Triangle to the west, and directly facing onto the US Navy Memorial.
The interior is intricately planned to take maximum advantage of the irregularly shaped space. The banking hall contained a 5 window teller line and desks for 4 officer’s. This hall was defined by an elaborately enriched and bracketed cornice. Additionally, there was a vault and associated support spaces for the safe deposit area, including space for a family booth.
